Participants will learn about the key-block technique, as well as how to maintain tools, use the kento registration system, and select and prepare Japanese paper. This class will be of special interest to anyone who wants to learn ukiyo-e technique, one of the oldest and most expressive forms of printmaking.

Flowing Paint on Silk

One of the most exciting aspects of painting silk is the possibility of creating strikingly vivid textures of color. This workshop introduces basic techniques for painting on silk--the watercolor technique (painting with dyes) and the French serti technique (drawing a design with water-based resist called gutta). In this class, participants will create a scarf or tapestry by painting, printing, spraying or drawing on silk. The result is stunning!  All levels are welcome.

Creative Journey through Dream-work and the Imagination

The essence of creativity resides in our unconscious. Using symbols from dreams or the imagination, we will explore mixed media art as a vehicle for bringing the unconscious forward. We will focus on developing intuition through creative exercises including dream-work, active imagination, journaling, and dialoguing as well as "hands-on" experiences in a wide range of mediums (i.e., drawing, painting, sculpting, printing and movement). You will develop an effective visual vocabulary and learn to ask insightful questions about your internal process.

No prerequisites are required; however, an active imagination and willingness to take creative risks is recommended.
